Chemex-coffee-maker-is-for-the-lazy-folks-
By Ebenezer Heng
I guess "lazy" is a negative term to associate it with chemex coffee maker, so if I would to choose another word to identify this brewer, then it would be "easy". Of course, this appliance has to be easy to use so that the lazy people would like it right?

This is a coffee making device that is very simple to set. All you need to do is to place some filter paper into the brewer, scoop in your favorite coffee blend, pour in the hot water, then wait for the coffee to drip into the lower flask and enjoy the coffee.

If you compared this to a coffee machine, it is pretty much the same, except that for the chemex, you need to pour in the hot water, while the coffee machine would do it automatically.

But, you would need to top up water into the coffee machine water tank, in this way the effort is roughly the same right?

Quality wise, thus far, there is no negative feedback about the quality of the coffee brewed. In fact, I believe that the coffee brewed should be much better than the coffee machine.

We know that a clean coffee maker would produced better quality coffee and so the brewer that is better maintained would produced better coffee.

For the manual filter brewer, you would need to wash and rinse it after every usage, so it is always clean. But, most coffee drinkers would only wash their coffee machines once or twice a week, so the level of cleanliness is lower.

There you have it, a brewer that is easy to use and yet able to produced good quality coffee. Being easy to use is just one aspect of coffee brewing; the other aspect that many people dread is the cleaning. Which I am happy to share that is very simple for this brewer as well.

Once you are finished with the coffee, the cleaning is even easier. Take out the filter paper, throw it away, and rinse the flask with running water, then with some soapy water, dry it and you can keep it in your kitchen cabinet.

Not only it is easy to clean, it even free out your kitchen counter space so that it would not be so cluttered. Some consumers took great pains to shop for a coffee machine that would fit into their kitchen theme. With this manual brewer, you would not have any of these problems.

I have just highlighted how easy this brewer is compared to a coffee machine, but how it is compared to single serve coffee maker, one that is also well known for its ease of use.

There is no doubt that the single serve coffee is much easier to use with its one button push. But when it comes to washing and cleaning, the chemex is still so much simpler. There are no parts to take out and you do not have to worry about wetting any electrical components.

So, if you are not the diligent coffee drinkers that would want to learn every steps of the coffee brewing process and hate to dismantle machines for washing, then I think you are like me, a lazy person that loves to drink coffee. And if you ever want to brew coffee at home, the chemex coffee maker is the appliance to get to avoid all the "hard work"!
