Chocolates at Valentines - The way to a woman's heart?

Well we all know that Valentines Day is the day of lovers and aday for giving gifts to those you care about but why is chocolates still the mostpopular gift given on Valentines Day? Why is chocolate is soclosely associated with romance?

Since chocolate was brought to Europe it has been considered thefood of love. Stories of its properties as an aphrodisiac forthe aristocrats were well known, the Spanish who brought it toEurope learnt about chocolate from the Aztecs who would consume largequantities before entering their harems. It was however aEuropean tradition that each year on the 14th of February youngmen would court young ladies with flowers and gifts and becauseback then chocolate was rare and expensive it wasn't long beforethis was the favourite gift given by the rich and aristocraticwho were the only ones able to provide this for the object oftheir affections. It wasn't long however before the secret ofchocolate got out and soon chocolate houses were opening upacross Europe, the best of which were and still are in Belgium.Belgium's best Chocolatier Neuhaus Chocolateswas founded in 1857 and although they are the official providerof chocolate to the Belgian Royal Family these days evenchocolate as good as theirs is so that everyone canenjoy them. More importantly they are enough that youcan give them to those you care about on Valentines Day and anyother day of the year.

Well why is chocolate still so popular as aValentines gift, is it just the marketing? Well, sinceValentines Day was exported to the USA it has been used tomarket everything from wrapping paper and cuddly toys toexpensive items such as jewellery. However why is it that thehistorical connection between chocolate and Valentines day haslasted the years? Well it seems there is more to it than justthe, sweet, mouth watering feeling you get as it melts in yourmouth leaving you wanting more and more... Scientists now knowthat like coffee and tea, chocolate affects the chemicalreactions already taking place in our brains. Unlike coffee andtea however is not only a stimulant, it containsphenyl-ethylamine which is known to stimulate the release ofdopamine in the brain released chocolate excites our pleasurecentres and creates a feeling of Euphoria and increases theheart rate similar to that of a person in love or at the peak ofan orgasm both of which should go down well with the recipientof your gift.

Now, despite all its psychotropic properties and ancientreputation, chocolate will probably not make a woman fall inlove with you but giving her something so delightful willdefinitely put you in her good books... Chocolate will also stimulate men'spleasure centres so ladies don't be shy to by a box for yourman, who knows what reaction you might get...
